Actually, I am running OS 9.1 on my 3400 (PPC 180). My understanding
from the Duo list is that up to 9.2.1 can be made to run on a PPC, but
it's not really worth the effort. And 9.2.2 is mostly an upgrade to
allow compatibility with OS X on G3 machines.
