All this talk of Newton sightings reminds me of the Atari sightings that went on a few years back. Eventually a site was dedicated to it.
Newton sightings I can add to the list...
- Starship Troopers (movie) when they are in class and taking notes on a screen on their desk, they are writing with collapsable Newton 110-130 pens.
- X-Files game, the note taking device is a Newton 2x00. Of course, this device had several gigs of storage, which was a nice glimpse of what a Newton would be like with more space. :)
-Star Warped (Video game) where they make fun of Star Wars, in one section where they asked "what would happen if you combined R2D2 and Yoda... you'd get a Newton MessagePad". They showed a cartoonish looking Newton with a Pineapple in it.
- Recess (Cartoon series: Disney) Gretchen carried around a "Galileo", which was about Newton size, and the animal was a frog rather than a Newton. However, to me at least a definate tribute to Newton, just replacing Newton with another noted man of discovery, Galileo. :)
- The name escapes me, but years ago, as Hanna Barbera was tinkering around with the idea of bringing Johnny Quest back, right before they brought out the "Real Adventures of Johnny Quest" they made a Johnny Quest spoof. (No... Not the "Venture Brothers" either) :) In this, they come apon a abandoned warehouse, and find a "PineApple MessagePad" on the floor, which they pick up and view a movie on. The device had a color screen, but was otherwise a definate Newton spoof.
- Under Seige II - I know this was talked about before, but just wanted to add, while this was definately a Newton 130, I believe it was a 130 prototype. It came out just before the 130 was really all that big, and the case and lettering looked different. So my thoughts on that.
- Fun sidenote... While they are different cases (silver) and a BRIGHT blue backlight... ever notice how the PADDs on Enterprise look about Newton 2x00 size/feel.
So there are a few more for the list.
