LocalTalk Hardware typically consists of the adapter matchboxes with two
female connections to the special LocalTalk cable (4 pins mini DIN, big
plastic connector key in the middle)and a pigtail that connects to the
device (Newt) which is indeed a RS 422 compatible connector and wiring.
I am not sure whether you can connect two devices directly without the
matchboxes, but if so, you do not really have LocalTalk anymore, this would
be a pure serial RS 422 connection then.
