Re: [NTLK] Opening of the Tucson Apple Store

Pretty much the lasers were the same, with the skins off of them, they
looked pretty much identical, mounting the skins had different "adapters",
but the power supplies were the same, the chassis were the same. I even
horrified an HP zealot by putting the Apple and the Canon toner cartridge in
the HP and then printed the test and sample for him - even with the
different bezels. I can still hear him screaming, "That's just like the DAMN
chevy engine in my Oldsmobile, the bastards!" I assured him that HP spent
the best money could buy when they used Canon for their engines. The buttons
and lights had different configurations and the Apples had some additional
software commands like the Canon over the HP, but that was only driver
capabilities.

Hm. I think they were more than simply branded... Just looking at the boxes
shows they are of completely different shapes, and I don't think, for
instance, you can exchange parts from the transport mechanism. I downloaded
a PDF for an HP printer once, thinking it would help me with my Iig, but it
looked so different for the most part, that I gave up trying...

I think that they rely on the same imaging engine, but beyond that, the
differences start to mount. Surely somebody on this list knows for sure...
