Did you follow the instructions at

Do you have these packages installed on your Internal store?
-Newton Internet Enabler 2.0
-Newton Devices
-NIE Ethernet
-Internet Setup 2.0
-Farallon ENet
-3c589.pkg
Did you reset the Newton after installing the drivers? Are the drivers frozen
or X'd out in Extras?
The 3c589 and 3comaddon packages are patches for the **Farallon** driver, not
for each other or anything else. You need the Farallon driver installed first!
