You will find that in most apps (like Notes, Calendar, etc.) There is
the [A] button available in the toolbar, this activates a menu with
several options: A Text, a Ink Text, and Preferences. Choose
Preferences and you will see the handwriting options.

Yup, probably a few of us (including me) had to change that "I write
capitals only" habit. Adjusting the way you print will improve your
Newton's recognition greatly. You should use the casual font as a guide
to the best letter shapes for printing recognition.

Checkout Adam Tow's newtToDo at http://www.tow.com/software/newton.shtml
And while you're there, check out all of his Newton software...great
stuff.

I have calc++ from unna archive. I believe you have to change the date
on your Newton just prior to installation and registration, search the
NewtonTalk archives for specifics on that.

Ah yes...my favorite feature on my Newton 120. <BOASTING> I use GoFetch
Shell Transport and my own BSD dialup server to provide a shell account
for myself. Since I have a 24/7 DSL connection, I simply dial into my
server which telnet's my Newton to the pop/smtp servers with my DSL
provider. </BOASTING>
I like GoFetch. It provides stationary and signatures, plus it has a
small footprint and runs quite well on my Newton 120 v2.0.

Have you done a brain-wipe and done your own installs yet? Are you
freezing rarely used Apps? Are you trying to run all three or more apps
at once?
My 120 v2.0 is pretty well over-stocked with good stuff, most of it
frozen. I run with about 55,685k free heap after a reboot.
1. Get yourself a freezing app and freeze rarely used apps. If your
don't already have one, checkout i++ 2.0. It's an "AppleMenu" like
launcher with auto-freezing,
2. Get Avi's Backdrop, it has a free heap display and is a pretty
efficient backdrop app.
3. Try not to run too much at once, the 120 is somewhat limited with
memory.
4. Also, consider a 20-32MB Linear Flash card. You'll love it. They
come up on eBay for about $30-$35 quite often. Watch your models and
specs, try and make sure it's compatible with your 120. It took me 2
purchases to get it right.
Regards,
Ron
