I'd love to help here. I've been trying to get into programming for
years. My first attempts involved AppleScript. Now there's an easy
starting language (although it's only scripting). Then Java. My first
attempt was a calculator. It was a mild success (meaning it could do math).
Then real work. I got a chance to do some programming in Access
databases which brought out the programmer in me again. So, I decide to
write a program to help me record, save and transmit gas prices to
GasPriceWatch.com with my cell phone. I've "released" version 0.1.0 (
http://www.ccsgraphic.com/Extras/GasPricer.jar if you're desperate to
try it.) and am working on implementing the later functionalities.
Before that, I was a bit desperate to get an IR dongle to work, but the
thought of writing in C was a bit scary. Memory handling is one thing
I'm glad Java has taken care of. That would have been my first project,
but now I'm leaning more towards supporting my phone with iSync or
something. Maybe one day, I'll be good enough to tackle some of the
harder projects. But for now, I'm just learning the ropes.
I wish I could use my Newton at work rather than that tablet PC that I
use from time to time.
