My apologies if this is a second posting, I didn't see the first
The eMate is still a very useful device. and certainly usable for
taking notes and keeping track of appointments.
When buying off eBay you should be aware that there is an issue with
the hinges,

so make sure you get a non DOA warranty.
If it has a battery pack it is not too difficult to re-cell it. This
will likely be needed since the original pack is getting old, thjough
some are still good.
Interfacing with desktop computers is not as easy as it used to be,
but still possible. Be sure to look at the Wikiwikinewt link at the
bottom of this email.
If you have the option of getting the memory upgrade, take it

I know that this is self serving but I have recently offered an emate
on this list. Not cheap but fully ready to go.
