Horvat said: "It could send, but it couldn't receive, and neither could any Newton before OS 2.0. Many other modems were supported too."

My reply: OK, I think I agree with you on this. It wasn't clear from the original documentation, and their advertisements are a bit misleading on this front (i.e. middle of nowhere commercial).

Horvat said: "The Messaging Card could only receive alphanumeric pager messages."

My reply: What I am certain of is that those alphanumeric pages would display on Newton's screen. But as for the voice messages... Are you certain? This contradicts the literature. I read in a few places that Apple provided a 1 800 number messaging conduit, and, when someone called and left a voice message for someone who owned a Newton/Messaging Card, the Newton Messaging Card would beep. I guess the Newton owner would then call into some access number and listen to their message.

Horvat said: "See above."

My reply: Here, I am still confused. The brochure for the OMP says: "Newton can send messages to another Newton through thin air"

Then I turned up this article, which says that not only can alphanumeric messages be received, they can also be sent. Also Email can be sent and, presumably, received, wirelessly, to/from other Newtons, presumably only those on the messaging system. Further, news services (data) could also be delivered to the Newton user wielding the Messaging Card.

So far I think it couldn't originally send faxes wirelessly.

So, how confused are we? Can anyone shed some more light on this, on the mystic Newton Messaging Card?
