Time for a shameless plug: <news://news.causeuse.org> hosts the newsgroups
that originally were on cyberdog.apple.com before it was steved.

OTOH, Cyberdog is about ten years behind Eudora 6.1 in its support of mail
protocols - no ssl, no smtp auth, no imap. Less stable, too.

If you wanted to go there, your best bet would be to set up a small unix
home server that handles your mail, and re-distributes it via pop3.
