Hello all. Does anyone know much about the DARPA program that was
using Newtons for the Marines?
Reason I ask, a friend of mine just acquired a semi-working MP130
that's a veteran of this DARPA program. They evidently retired it due
to a malfunctioning power switch, but otherwise it works fine (it's
just that turning it on is a little tricky).
Once it's on, lo and behold, there's a very nice little app on there
that interfaces with a GPS, a radio, and a laser designator and
allows the user to become part of the fire-control network and call
in strikes on a large variety of targets (it has nice little icons
for what you want to blow up -- tanks, artillery, etc).
Anyone had a chance to play with one of these Newtons, or know a
little more about the history of the program?
Thanks.
