[NTLK] GPS AYAN (and yet another newtbie ;=}): Connecting MP130 to eTrex

Dear fellow Newtonians,

what do I need to do to sucessfully connect a Garmin eTrex to GPS Map Lite
on my MP 130?

Hardware:

Apple MessagePad 130, NOS 2.0
Garmin eTrex
home-made eTrex-to-DB-9 cable
DB-9-female-to-DB-9-female converter
DB-9-to-Mini-DIN cable

- Would I need to cross-wire the eTrex-to-Newton connection?

MP 130 settings:

GPS Driver: NMEA 183
Interface Settings:
        Port: Seriell
        Speed: 4800
        Parity: None
        Handshake: XOn/XOff
        Data Bits: 8
        Stop Bits: 1
        UTC Offset: -01:00
        Init String: n/a

Any help much appreciated!
