A quick way to eliminate faulty hardware is to hard reset / brain-wipe
(obviously you should do a good backup first!) and run with the virgin
Newt OS / Apps and see how it runs.
If its fine then its definitely a software problem - slowly add in
extensions and apps - ideally one at a time with extensive testing in
between. Somewhere down the line you'll run into the same freeze
problem. At this stage its either a conflict of some kind or you're
running low on heap-space.
