Well there is not any 'prying' involved. Look at the side of the card
that is exposed while the card is inserted into the newton, it should be
the same side as the write protect switch. You should see the battery
compartment. Generally they just slide right out. Look at the bottom
(opposite the big flat side side with the cards name) and see if there
is a slot to stick your fingernail into and to slide it out. Also
sometimes they have a "lock" to hold them in place, look for that, it is
another switch, usually closer to the battery compartment. If it does
not easily pop out don't force it, there probably is a 'lock' switch. I
have a few cards with a lock and others without. If you have any data
that you want to keep make sure you either transfer it to another card
or back it up using NCU or something similar before you replace the
battery. They usually take the same battery as the Newton's backup
CR2026 if memory serves.

Oh and I have one card with a tiny screw to hold the cover in place.
That is another method of holding the battery compartment in place, but
not as common.
