If your son had tmobile and you had sprint that may have been the problem. My best mate was on sprint and we often had SMS that wouldnt go through (I'm on tmobile). We're both USA based and only live about 10 miles apart so it was aggravating that they couldn't get it fixed. I've never had that problem except with sprint users.
As for the Pre, it looks promising but I'm not sure about palm. I'd wait to see if they keep up this new pace of innovation or fall back into their old habits. They could become leaders again or they could continue to be the joke of the pack, I'd wait and see before I invest in them.

They never get the SMSs. I don't know why. Also, my son, this past
summer, using his Polish SIM couldn't SMS out when he was on a
T-Mobile tower, but could under an ATT tower. I don't know why, but
SMS and T-Mobile don't get along from here. Yes, I've tried it with a
few T-Mobile people. In any case, my son won't be going T-Mobile when
he gets back. I'll probably set him up with ATT, simply because we can
communicate via text. blech. BTW, I've had Sprint now, twice (and
years ago, long distance), and I've been happy with their customer
service. Am I unique? (Yes, I'm thinking about that new Pre) ;-)
